How Do I Check for Recalls On My Car?

If your car is properly registered (as it should be by law), Mazda will be able to send you a notification of a recall when it’s found. It’s a good idea to check to see if there are recalls on your car now and then. All you have to do is search your car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the Mazda recall page. The VIN is a number that’s unique to your car. You can find it in the lower driver’s side corner of your windshield, visible from the outside.

If you drive a Mazda that’s more than 15 years old in McDonough or Milledgeville, you’ll need to contact the Mazda Customer Relationship Center. The number is in your owner’s manual, but you’re welcome to contact us and we’ll give the number to you.

Why Does My Car Have a Recall?

Your car has a recall because of a defect in “performance, construction, a component, or material of a motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment” that’s been found through safety tests. What constitutes a defect? The NHTSA defines a safety defect as any problem with a motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment that:

• Poses a risk to motor vehicle safety.
• May exist in a group of vehicles of the same design or manufacture.
• May exist in items of equipment of the same type and manufacture.
